Pre-K Teacher in Roots & Fruits Preschool Program
Come and join our culturally diverse team of educators at Roots and Fruits Preschool in South Portland, ME. We are hiring a30-hour Pre-K Teacher to work with children between the ages of 3-5 years old. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of a cross-cultural, peace-based preschool program and to teach an integrated group of South Portland Public Pre-K students, as well as our privately-enrolled students ages 3-5. The hours are 8:30AM-2:30PM M-F and the position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, co-creating project-based curriculum alongside other lead teachers to implement with young children, supporting and strengthening a child’s individual development, providing a supportive, culturally-diverse environment for children to learn, observing and reflecting on children’s learning and development, using positive and peace-based behavior guidance tools, using a portfolio-based assessment system based on the Work Sampling Program and adapted to align with our school’s mission and principles, and being a positive role model. The best candidate for this position is someone who is an active learner, authentic, creative, communicative, adept listener, self-reliant, progressive, dependable, has a sense of humor, ability to self-reflect, is a team player, and loves to work with and care for children. We are looking for someone who is structured and reliable, but can also go with the flow and follow along with our organic approach. We are a cross-cultural school with the values of peace and social justice at the heart of all we do and we are looking for someone who can support teaching a curriculum which addresses aspects of identity such as race, gender, religion, abilities, ancestry, social and emotional well-being, honoring the Earth, and more. Because this position also teaches public pre-k, you must have or be in process of obtaining an 081 Early Childhood Certification in the State of Maine (provisional certifications will also be considered).
Qualifications: 081 Early Childhood Certification or Provisional Certification. Enjoyment of and passion to work with young children. Good mental, physical and spiritual health, with an openness and desire towards expanding wellness and spiritual growth. Respect for diverse cultural backgrounds, good driving record, and willingness to undergo background checks required by law. Bilingual a plus.

PART TIME After School Preschool Art Educator in Roots & Fruits Preschool Program:
Come join our culturally diverse team of educators! Roots and Fruits Preschool is hiring a20-hour per week Art Educator/After School Preschool Care Provider to work with children between the ages of 3-5. The position’s hours are 1:30 PM – 5:30 PM. Position includes, but is not limited to, supporting children’s transitions from the morning program to our afternoon program, supporting cleaning and organizing the space to ready it for children, creating projects and activities which focus on the arts across many mediums and which will strengthen a child’s individual development, providing a supportive, cross-cultural environment for children to learn, and being a positive role model. The best candidate for this position is someone who is reliable, creative, an active learner, authentic, communicative, good at listening and being present. We are looking for someone who both integrates art into all they do, as well as someone who can work well with children and who is self-reliant, and dependable. Because we are a values-driven organization, it’s important that the candidate be able to communicate with children about aspects of identity, culture, and who can cultivate relationships of love and care with both the children and fellow staff. Substitute Teachers
Roots and Fruits Preschool is seeking 6-8 substitute teachers with immediate availability to serve in a teacher’s capacity for the 2017-18 school year.
The purpose of the substitute teacher position is to provide classroom support and instruction when a staff teacher is absent. The responsibilities of a substitute teacher are to provide supervision at all times, and to deliver the educational philosophy and mission of the Roots & Fruits preschool.
Our preschool has a unique emphasis on teaching children to embrace diversity, encouraging them to learn about and honor their own roots (or heritage) and fruits (or gifts), as well as those of others. We build strong connections among diverse families.
Our peace-based curriculum helps children to develop communication and problem solving skills, as well as compassion and understanding towards themselves and others.
